Microcement: Seamless aesthetics & technical performance from the specialist

In modern architecture and high-quality interior design, surfaces that can do more than just look good are in demand. Microcement is one such material: an innovative, cement-bound filler that enables us to create seamless, characterful surfaces on floors, walls and even furniture. Whether purist concrete look, silky-matt elegance or individual color design - microcement offers a unique combination of aesthetics and functionality. As your nationwide partner for sophisticated surface technology, we not only master the technical processing of microcement systems, but also provide you with comprehensive advice on the technical possibilities and the decisive quality factors for a permanently convincing result.

Microcement Defined: Material, technology, result

What exactly is microcement? It is a polymer-modified cement filler that is applied by hand in very thin layers (usually only 2-3 mm).

  • The material: A mixture of fine cement, synthetic resins (polymers), additives and - if desired - color pigments. It is not an off-the-shelf product, but a system consisting of a primer, several layers of filler and a decisive final sealant.
  • The technique: In contrast to self-levelling screed, microcement is not self-levelling. It is applied with special trowels in several steps and sanded in between. This artisanal troweling technique gives each surface its own individual texture and vibrancy - making it truly unique.
  • The result: a seamless, firm yet minimally flexible surface with high adhesion to suitable substrates. Visually, the spectrum ranges from a modern concrete look to velvety surfaces and light textures.

Areas of application & design potential of microcement

The versatility of microcement allows it to be used in numerous areas, which we realize for you throughout Germany:

  • Modern living environments: Microcement floors and walls create a calm, spacious ambience in living rooms, bedrooms or hallways.
  • Seamless bathrooms & showers: Design of complete wet areas without a single tile joint ("microcement bathroom"). An absolutely tight system structure including special sealing is crucial here.
  • Kitchens: Stylish and easy-care surfaces for floors and walls (kitchen splashback). Worktops are also possible with suitable, food-safe sealants.
  • Stairs: Seamless coating for a staircase that looks as if it has been cast from a single mold.
  • Commercial & shopfitting: Representative design floors or trowel floors in stores, restaurants, offices or showrooms that radiate individuality and value.
  • Furniture & objects: Finishing of washbasins, counters or other elements in a matching look.

Thanks to the pigmentability and the individual signature of the processor, there are virtually no limits to creative freedom.

Technical features & performance profile

In addition to its appearance, microcement also offers functional advantages:

  • Adhesion: With correct substrate preparation, microcement achieves excellent adhesion to a wide variety of substrates (concrete, screed, tiles, plasterboard, etc.).
  • Seamless: Offers maximum hygiene, is extremely easy to clean and avoids typical problems with dirty or moldy joints.
  • Low installation height: At just 2-3 mm, ideal for renovations, as connections can usually remain unchanged.
  • Durability: A high-quality sealant protects the surface well against abrasion and scratches in the context of the intended use (residential, normal commercial).
  • Water resistance (in the system): The right sealant makes the system waterproof and suitable for wet areas.

Execution as a success factor: what really matters with microcement

The quality of a microcement surface stands and falls with the professionalism of the workmanship. Our experts pay attention to these critical points:

  1. Substrate preparation - The foundation: The substrate must be absolutely stable, crack-free, clean, dry and load-bearing. Unevenness must be evened out, old tiles specially primed and often filled with a reinforcing mesh. We carry out a meticulous inspection and preparation.
  2. System reliability & material quality: We only use high-quality, coordinated microcement system components from renowned manufacturers.
  3. Craftsmanship: Processing requires experience, precision and a feel for materials and technology in order to achieve the desired look and consistent quality.
  4. The sealer - the decisive protection: The selection and careful, multi-layered application of the right sealer (usually 2-component PU lacquer) significantly determine the final hardness, scratch resistance, stain resistance and waterproofness. Expert tip: Never skimp here, especially not in the bathroom or on floors!
  5. Patience & timing: It is essential to observe the drying and waiting times between the individual coats.

Planning & costs: What you need to know for your microcement project

  • Consultation: A detailed consultation on design, color, texture and the right sealant is the starting point for every project.
  • Cost of microcement: As a high-quality, labor-intensive craft service, microcement belongs to the premium segment. The Price per sqm is significantly influenced by:
    • The condition and necessary preparation of the substrate (often a major factor!).
    • The size and complexity of the surface (many corners/edges are more complex).
    • The selected system and the number of protective layers/sealing. An individual offer following an inspection is essential for a reliable calculation.
  • Care: With the right sealant, microcement surfaces are easy to care for. Use pH-neutral cleaners and avoid aggressive abrasive cleaners.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Is microcement really waterproof for the bathroom?

The microcement material itself is cementitious. The waterproofness of the entire system is achieved by the final, multi-layer PU sealant. If this is applied professionally, the surface is completely waterproof and suitable for showers.

Can microcement be applied directly to old tiles?

Yes, this is a common application in renovation. The prerequisite is that the tiles are solid and the substrate is carefully prepared: thorough cleaning, sanding, special adhesive primer and usually a fabric reinforcement with a scratch coat to bridge the joints and create a stable base.

How easy is a microcement floor or wall to maintain?

With a high-quality sealant, microcement is very easy to clean. Normal mopping with water and pH-neutral cleaners is sufficient. Aggressive or abrasive agents must be avoided in order not to damage the sealant.

Is microcement sensitive to scratches?

It is hard-wearing and suitable for everyday use, but not completely scratch-resistant (similar to parquet or other high-quality surfaces). The scratch resistance depends heavily on the quality and hardness of the final sealant. Caution with sharp objects is advisable.

Why is microcement more expensive than tiles or plaster?

The cost of microcement results from the high-quality multi-component materials and, above all, from the very high level of craftsmanship required. The multi-layered application by hand with intermediate grinding is time-consuming and requires specialized professionals.
